Matt laughed, “I think you kill your own buzz right now man. Come on, lighten up for me.” He said, adopting a serious tone. “Or do I need to get something a little stronger out to cheer you up?” He asked, pointing back towards the kitchen where the rest of the alcohol was.

Matt shrugged, realising that Ryker had a point; he might find himself a father sooner than he planned. “I mean obviously I’d love it if someone was pregnant but then… I dunno.” He shrugged again. “It’s kids, it’s a big issue man.”

Ryker laughed, pretty hard at Matt’s comment. “That I do, that might be the only way to describe me. I kill my own buzz,” Ryker said shaking his head with a grin.

“I know, just never say never. I don’t plan on having anymore, mine are more than enough for me,” Ryker said with a shrug. He took the bottle and took a good long sip before handing it to Matt.

“Yeah well just remember I’m your boss when we’re at work, alright?” Matt grinned, glad that they could joke around this much. It was great to have people you work with who you could just have a laugh with whilst drinking whiskey out of a bottle.

“Can’t disagree with you there, man.” Matt nodded, taking another drink. “I dunno. Kids are something I’ve always assumed I’ll have but never really put thought into when. You might need more kids for them to play together is all I mean since I might not have any for a while.”

“I know, don’t kill my buzz,” Ryker said glaring at Matt but then smiling at him all the same.

Ryker nodded along to what Matt said. “I never thought about kids until Roxie got pregnant so you never know man. You could end up with two when you were expecting none,” Ryker said with a shrug.

Matt smirked as Ryker took two large drinks from the bottle, he was sure this guy was probably the only person he knew who could drink him under the table. “Alright man don’t drink it all in one go.” He said, reaching out for the bottle. 

“Yeah Ryker, you’re right.” He said as he looked at the label of the drink before taking a drink. “There’ll be someone out there for me who’s the right woman. And you too.”

“You’re not the boss of me right now man,” Ryker said with a laugh. He was definitely feeling it and it felt really good for once.

“I’ve got two right someones and they’re twins and they’re goddamn perfect,” Ryker said with another laugh, “what about you? You gonna have kids one day so ours can play together and shit?”

I guess you’re lucky in that sense. But do you see you ever getting back together with them or is it definitely over?” Matt paused, realising that what he had just said might come across as the wrong thing to say. 

“Sorry, it didn’t mean to sound that bad.” Matt said slowly. “Jules was… well I guess she was just a big part of my life and I fucked up by getting back with her, I should have known not to put myself through that again.”

“It’s fine man and fuck if I know,” Ryker said honestly. He took the new bottle and took a good long gulp, then another once he’d swallowed the first.

“Shit happens Matt, you thought it would work and it didn’t. I don’t blame you for trying again,” Ryker said simply, “I went back to Roxie for the same reason but just ‘cause it didn’t work this time doesn’t mean it won’t work with someone else you know?”

It’s not all that bad though, mate.” Matt offered, “You’re an amazing guy and I know Emmett enough to say that I think he’d approve of anything happening between the two of you.”

He didn’t reply straight away, instead he got up and walked towards the kitchen so that he could grab another bottle. When he returned he set it on the table as though telling Ryker to start on it first. “Things with Josh and me are difficult I guess. I mean we’re close but we don’t really talk about that type of stuff, you know? We don’t really talk about women or that sort of stuff. Meh, I guess you’re right, you’re the one I guess I should be talking to.”

“I’m glad, I’d let him beat my ass too if he wanted to. I wish it were that simple, just one person you know? I think I could handle it. But I’ve got Garrett and Zoe. And Zoe, she well she’s goddamn perfect,” Ryker said shaking his head, running a hand through his hair.

Ryker watched Matt as he went to get more booze. “Whatever you need man. You know I’m not gonna judge you or shit. I know you and Jules were kind of that epic shit that feels like you’ve been gutted when it’s over. I went through that a few times with Roxie so I get it. Trying to make something work when it just isn’t meant to be,” Ryker said.

And Jules… I will need a lot more booze and a fucking year to talk about us, so…” He grabbed the bottle and downed it, taking about three large gulps and wincing a little at the burn. It was almost empty. “Shit, we drank that bitch fast.”

Ryker laughed, shaking his head. “It’s that bad huh?” he asked, “fuck I’m not even denying it. My first fucking crush on a dude and it had to be fucking Emmett’s kid brother.”

“Yeah but who else you gonna talk to about things? I know you’re not baring your soul to Josh. You could talk to Fraze or Emmett but they don’t know Gwen as well as I do,” he shrugged, then nodded, “fuck yeah we did.”

Matt tilted his head, then shook it to clear his imagination. “Thanks for that lovely image, man.” He leaned across to the table and grabbed the bottle, knocking back a big gulp to help. “So what makes him so special then?”

“Me?” Matt asked, holding the bottle over to Ryker in case he wanted more. “What do you want to know?” He wasn’t sure what there was about him that Ryker would want to know about.

Ryker shrugged. “I don’t know. He’s fun and he’s got this carefree spirit that’s fucking contagious. I mean we actually got drunk and watched Spongebob. I don’t know man, I’m falling, hard,” Ryker said frowning for a moment before eagerly taking the bottle from Matt.

“You and Sabrina, you and my sister, you and Jules. Take your pick,” he said then took a long sip, hiccuped and handed it back to Matt.

Ryker took the bottle not saying as a small, drunk pout formed on his face. He took a long drink and handed the bottle back to his best friend.

“I don’t know it man. You know sometimes I wonder if I’m just fucked? I mean fucking relationships I can’t do. My ex went to some other man, Maki took off. What if I just meant to be one of those creepy single Dads?” he asked with a hiccup.

“Thanks man.” Matt muttered, taking the bottle back and taking yet another swig, feeling the alcohol starting to make him light headed. 

Matt shook his head, slapping Ryker on the thigh a few times. “Nope, I don’t believe that. I don’t think you’re gonna be lonely and alone for the rest of your life. There’s a woman out there for you. Or guy. I dunno.” He added, shrugging his shoulders.

Ryker laughed followed by another hiccup. “I only fuck dudes, usually I don’t have feelings for ‘em. Garrett’s just special,” he said mimicking Matt’s shrug.

“What about you?” he asked reach over and nudging Matt’s shoulder, “you gotta share now. It’s only fucking fair.”

Ryker chuckled shaking his head. He pounded his fist against Matt’s making a quiet explosion noise before grabbing his glass. He finished his scotch and set the glass back down.

“It’s probably better they be together anyway,” Ryker said stiffly.

Matt grinned and copied Ryker’s explosion noise as their fists hit. He grabbed hold of the bottle of scotch and took a large swig straight from the bottle. It was kinda big news and even though it didn’t bother him he needed to process it first. 

“That’s bullshit man.” Matt shook his head, handing him the bottle. “And you know it.”
